A group of eight Sub-Sahara African dignitaries from government, parliament and civil society consisting of partners of the Heinrich Boell Foundation’s regional offices in Africa is visiting Washington, DC from May 24 to May 27 to learn more about actors, instruments and policies involved in financing adaptation measures in Africa.

During their time in Washington, the group will meet with experts at the World Bank, the Global Environment Facility (GEF), the Secretariat for the Adaptation Fund, US think tanks, as well as US government respresentatives at the US Department of State and USAID. They will also visit on the Hill to learn and discuss US appropriations for bilateral and multilateral financing efforts to help the poorest developing countries in Africa deal with the impacts of climate change. The group then continue on will to Bonn, Germany for meetings with German officials and to engage with the Secretariat of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The Offices of the Boell Foundation in Africa as well as the Washington Office are jointly working on a regional project on “Climate Governance in Africa”. This capacity-building and advocacy visit with a focus on climate financing is part of this collaborative effort.
