Robert Habeck, state chairman of the Green Party of Schleswig-Holstein, will visit Washington, DC and the state of Maryland from September 17 to 23. He will take part in the conference RETECH and speak at an invitation-only roundtable discussion on renewable energy.

Biography

Robert Habeck was born in 1969 in Lübeck and grew up in Heikendorf in Schleswig-Holstein. There he attended the Heinrich-Heine-school where he served on the student council obtaining his diploma in 1989.

In 1991 he began studying philology and philosophy in Freiburg, finishing his studies in Hamburg.  He obtained his master’s degree in 1996 and his doctorate in 2000 with a dissertation on the “nature of literature.”

In 2004 he became state chairman of the Green Party of Schleswig-Holstein, and led the coalition negotiations with the SPD and the SSW. In the September 2009 state elections, Mr. Habeck was the top candidate on the party list and currently serves as chairman of the Green parliamentary group. Upon assuming this parliamentary position, he resigned as state chairman in order to preserve the green principle of separation of office and mandate.

Robert Habeck is married to Andrea Paluch, an award winning freelance writer. They have twins. Since 2001, he and his family have been residing in Lüneburg, a small town in Schleswig-Holstein near the Danish border.
