Franz Untersteller, Minister for the Environment, Climate, and Energy of the State of Baden-Wurttemberg (Germany), will visit Washington, DC, Chicago and Toronto from October 2 to 8, 2011. He will speak at the event Clean Energy Economy among others and discuss transatlantic energy policies in bilateral meetings.

Biography

Franz Unterseller is the Minister for the Environment, Climate, and Energy of the State of Baden-Wurttemberg.  He also currently serves as a Member of the Board of the Heinrich Boell Foundation. Franz Untersteller is also on the board of various institutes and associations including Eco-Institute e.V.,  the Association of Friends of Wilhelma e.V., Plan International, and an honorary board member of TTF Neckarhausen Active Players Association.

From 2006-2011, Franz Untersteller served as deputy leader of the Green Party’s parliamentary group in the state parliament of Baden-Wurttemberg.  He had previously served as parliamentary advisor to the Green Party in the state parliament on environmental and energy policy (1983-2006).  In 1982, he served as a Fellow of the Carl-Duisberg-Gesellschaft in Colombia, working on a project in cooperation with the Colombian environmental ministry.

Franz Untersteller graduated from the University of Applied Sciences in Nurtingen in 1982 with a specialization in Landscape Planning.  He served as a lecturer at the Fachhochschule Nurtingen from 1998-1999.  He has been a member of the Green Party since 1983.  He was born in Ensheim in 1957 and is married with two children.
