Brig Gen (Res.) Shlomo Brom, a Senior Research Associate at the Institute for National Security Studies in Tel Aviv and former head of Israeli Air Force Intelligence, and  Major Gen Jibril Rajoub, Director of the Palestinian Center for Security Studies, who has served in numerous official posts with the Palestinian Authority and the PLO, will attend the Halifax International Forum from Nov. 18.-20.

In partnership with the Heinrich Böll Foundation, both will present a proposal for building an international presence in the conflict zone on the way to a two-state solution. The proposal is the result of intensive consultation among a group of high-level experts - amongst them security experts from Israel, Palestine, Europe and Canada.

 

Bios:

Shlomo Brom, is a senior research associate at the Institute for National Security Studies. Brig Gen (ret.) Brom participated in peace negotiations with the Palestinians, Jordan, and Syria, and in Middle Eastern regional security talks during the 1990s. He continued to be involved in Track 2 dialogues on these subjects after his retirement from the IDF. In 2000 he was named deputy to the National Security Advisor, returning to JCSS at the end of his post. In 2005-2006 Brig. Gen. (ret.) Brom was a member of the Meridor committee established by the Minister of Defense to reexamine the security strategy and doctrine of the State of Israel. His primary areas of research are Israeli-Palestinian relations and national security doctrine.

Jibril Rajoub, Major General, has formerly been Yasir Arafat's National Security Advisor as well as head of the Palestinian Preventive Security Force in the West Bank. During the 1970’s – 1980’s, Rajoub was arrested several times and imprisoned in Israel, before he was expelled to Tunisia in 1988. In 2009, he has been elected to the Fatah Central Committee member and the deputy of its General Secretary. He is currently holding various advisory positions to the Palestinian Authority.
