Gerhard Schick, PhD, Member of the German Bundestag

From October 9th to 14th, Dr. Gerhard Schick will come to Washington D.C. as part of the official visit of the Finance Committee of the German Bundestag. The delegation will arrive in D.C. on the occasion of the fall meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank.  In addition, Dr. Schick will attend a Eurozone Breakfast co-organized by the Boell Foundation and the Center on the US and Europe at Brookings featuring Italian Minister of Economy Pier Carlo Padoan.

Biography

Gerhard Schick was born in 1972 in Hechingen, Germany, and has been a member of the German Green Party since 1996. A political economist by training with a Ph.D. in finance from the University of Freiburg (Germany), Dr. Schick is one of the most outspoken members of the German parliament in favor of smart regulatory reforms for the German and European banking and finance sector. Ever since he contested a seat in the German Parliament in 2005, he has been engaged in promoting financial and economic policies that aim at increasing social justice, transparent and participatory democracy as well as biodiversity and environmental protection on a national as well as EU level. 

Dr. Schick currently serves as vice chairman of the Finance Committee in the German Parliament. He also serves as substitute member of the Budget Committee and spokesperson on Finance for Alliance 90/The Greens.
