Barbara Lochbihler

 

Mrs. Barbara Lochbihler, Member of the European Parliament, is visiting Washington, DC on February 18th and 19th. She is Member of The Greens / European Free Alliance and Chairwoman of the Parliament’s Delegation to Iran. During her stay in DC, she will be attending consultations on Iran with the Administration, Congress and Think Tanks and will also participate in an ongoing Advisory Group set up by the Century FDN and the National Security Network to develop recommendations for the US administration on how to deal with the Iranian opposition.

Barbara Lochbihler was born in 1959 in Ronsberg, southern Germany. After an apprenticeship as tax officer, she studied social work in Munich (diploma). Following a position as manager in a senior citizen and service center, she went back to university for a second program and graduated in political science, economics and international law from Ludwig Maximilian’s University Munich (Master’s degree).  From 1987-91, she served as personal parliamentary liaison officer in the Bavarian state parliament before coming into office as Secretary General of the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom in Geneva from 1992-99. In 1999, she was appointed Secretary General of Amnesty International Germany and worked in this position until 2009.  Since then, she has been a Member of the European Parliament for The Greens / European Free Alliance and chairs the Delegation for relations with Iran.
