Welcoming Communities Transatlantic Exchange 2017

This past spring, 25 German integration practitioners from the cities of Duesseldorf, Muenster, Dueren, Leipzig, and Freiburg traveled across the US to see how American cities tackle the challenges and opportunities of refugee and immigrant integration. The delegates met first in Washington, D.C., to learn about the U.S. refugee resettlement program and other federal policies impacting integration before spreading out to site visits in Nashville, Salt Lake City, and Detroit. At the end of the trip, delegates reconvened in Los Angeles to compare the diversity of American integration policies to their own cities’ approaches back in Germany.
