Amelia Urry
Science Writer, Grist

Amelia Urry is a science writer and editor at Seattle-based Grist, where she covers everything from coral reefs to smart cities. Her work has also appeared in Wired, Slate, Mother Jones, Fusion, Atlas Obscura, and in the 2016 essay collection Coming of Age at the End of Nature. Amelia is also the coauthor of a book on fractal geometry, Fractal Worlds: Grown, Built, Imagined from Yale University Press. Urry will use her fellowship to travel to Bottrop, Germany where she will report on “pumped hydro” storage and the town of Essen, where she will learn more about the transition of former coal communities.
