Steffi Lemke, the Secretary General of Bündnis 90/Die Grünen and Rudi Hoogvliet, Press Secretary of Winfried Kretschmann, Minister-President of Baden-Wuerttemberg, will lead a delegation of the German Green Party for a visit to Washington DC from June 18-22.

The delegation is in town to discuss transatlantic relations, the Euro budget crisis, and Germany’s energy transition among other matters. A roundtable discussion on the future of progressive politics in Germany will be hosted in collaboration with the American Institute for Contemporary German Studies on Wednesday, June 20 at 5PM. The event will be in German only. 

Biographies

Steffi Lemke, born in 1968 in Dessau, studied Agricultural Sciences at the Humboldt University, Berlin. In 1990, she was a founding Member of the Green Party of the GDR and held various political positions before becoming a member of the German Bundestag in 1994. Among others, she was a member of the Committee for Food, Agriculture and Forestry, the Committee on Transport and the Committee on Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety. Since 2002, Steffi Lemke is the head campaign manager and policy director of the Alliance 90/ The Greens.

Rudi Hoogvliet, born in 1958, studied politics and education while becoming involved with the green party early in his life. Among other positions, he was responsible for the party's public relations and he was the election campaign manager in the federal elections of 2002, 2005 and 2009. In May 2011 he got appointed as the government spokesperson for the first green prime minister in the history of the country Winfried Kretschmann in Baden-Wuerttemberg.
