Johannes Remmel, Minister for Climate Protection and Environment of Germany's largest state North Rhine-Westphalia, will visit Washington Dc from September 18 to 21. He will speak at the public conference Gaining Strength and at RETECH about Germany's transition towards a low carbon economy.

Biography

Johannes Remmel is Minister for Climate Protection, Environment, Agriculture, Conservation and Consumer Affairs of North Rhine-Westphalia.  He is also parliamentary manager of the Green Party  of the North Rhine- Westphalia state parliament in which he has been a member since June 1995.  As a member of the Green Party in the state parliament, Mr. Remmel has served as the party’s tourism and financial affairs spokesperson, and has served as the party’s environmental spokesperson since 1997.  From 1997 to 2000 he was also the Chairman of the Commission of Inquiry.

From 1989 to 1995 Mr. Remmel served as a member of the Council of the City of Siegen and chaired the Committee for the Environment, Nature Conservation, and Energy.  He has also served on the Transport Committee of the Council of the City of Siegen (1984-1989) and was Chairman of the Siegen-Wittgenstein district association from 1991 to 1993.

Mr. Remmel attended the University of Siegen where he was Chairman of the General Student Committee.  He has also previously taught ‘German as a Foreign Language’ and has been a member of the Greeny party since 1983.  He was born Siegen in 1962 as is married with two children.
