"Smart Growth: Green Revolution" in New York City and Washington DC

Ralf Fücks, President of the Heinrich Böll Foundation, will travel to New York City and Washington DC for political talks from October 1st to October 4th, 2013. In both cities he will participate in several events discussing issues ranging from German Elections to the topic of his new book Smart Growth: The Green Revolution.

In his book Ralf Fücks challenges conservative and progressive strategies for economic growth and the ecological notion of Dennis Meadows' 1982 Limits to Growth. He argues that while the calls for the end of growth are not realistic – given the ongoing development needs of a large number of countries – there is a possibility to follow a growth pathway that goes hand-in-hand with ecological sustainability. The ecological transformation of capitalism is a formidable innovation and investment agenda: it is about resource-efficient technologies, renewable energy, smart grids, new materials, interconnected resource-cycles, electric mobility, the modernization of public local and long-distance transportation, retrofitting cities, CO2-recycling and high-tech organic agriculture.

After a successful launch in Germany, Smart Growth: The Green Revolution has triggered intense debate reaching far beyond the traditional Green comfort zone. The English edition of the book is expected to be released in the winter of 2013/14.

Details about his book discussion on October 4th at the Representative of German Industry and Trade (RGIT) in Washington DC can be found here.
