Jan Philipp Albrecht (Member of the European Parliament for the German Green Party), Dr. Konstantin von Notz (Member of the German Parliament for BÜNDNIS 90/DIE GRÜNEN) and Malte Spitz (Federal Party Council Member of the German Greens) will be visiting Washington, DC, from March 24th to March 27th.

The delegation of leading Green policy-makers and internet experts will visit Washington D.C. to discuss issues related to digital rights and privacy. The group will meet with a range of US policy-makers, think tank experts, and activists in bilateral meetings, roundtable discussions, and public events. Data and privacy protection, cyber security, mass surveillance and internet freedom will be addressed among other issues.

Bios:

Jan Philipp Albrecht, Member of the European Parliament and Member of the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs. He is currently steering the data protection regulation through the European parliament. From 2003 until his election to the European Parliament in 2009, Jan Philipp Albrecht studied law in Bremen, Berlin and Brussels and specialised in IT law at the Universities of Hanover and Oslo. Since 1999 he has been an activist on behalf of the Greens in a wide range of contexts. Thanks to his efforts to promote data protection, the former federal spokesman of the Young Greens in Germany (2006-2008) has rapidly gained a reputation within the European Parliament as an expert on home affairs, justice and legal affairs. Jan Philipp Albrecht was born on 20 December 1982 in Braunschweig.

Dr. Konstantin von Notz, Member of the German Parliament for BÜNDNIS 90/DIE GRÜNEN since 2009. Since 2005, he was a member of the Party Council from Schleswig-Holstein and in 2007 he became the speaker of the county association Lauenburg of BÜNDIS 90/DIE GRÜNEN. Currently, he is also deputy chairman of the Green fraction in parliament and spokesman for digital rights of BÜNDIS 90/DIE GRÜNEN. Konstantin is also a member of the Committee on Internal Affairs, a substitute member of the Committee on Legal Affairs and Consumer Protection. Throughout the last legislative period, he was a member of the German parliaments' Committee of Inquiry on Internet and Digital Society. Konstantin von Notz studied Law in Heidelberg and worked as a lawyer from 2004 until 2009. He is a member of Transparency International and was the director of its regional group in Schleswig-Holstein from 2006 to 2008.

 

Malte Spitz. After becoming a member of BÜNDNIS 90/DIE GRÜNEN in 2001, Malte Spitz currently serves as member of the Federal Party Council of the German Greens. From 2006 to 2013, has was one of the six members of the Green Party's Executive Committee. From 2003 onwards, he was committee member of the GRÜNE JUGEND federal executive board and since the European electoral campaign 2004 till end of 2006 he was Secretary General of the youth organization. His key topics are the domains of digital rights, privacy and civil liberties, media and cultural policy. Furthermore, since 2011 he acts as international coordinator of the German Greens. Lastly, he is founder of the initiative „Pro Netzneutralität“ in favor of net neutrality, a member of Netzwerk Neue Medien and Chaos Computer Club (CCC). In 2011 Malte decided to publish a detailed account of his movements after a successful law suit against T-Mobile had allowed him access to his records on data retention. The vizualisation of this data together with Zeit Online got an American Online Journalism Award 2011 and a Grimme Online Award.
