The Covid-19 pandemic has created a new billionaire every 30 hours, while plunging a million people into extreme poverty at the same rate
Ahead of the World Economic Forum 2022, OXFAM International published a brief on May 23 entitled “Profiting from Pain” which provides some staggering numbers on how billionaires have enjoyed a huge boost to their fortunes during the Covid-19 pandemic. The brief concludes with an urgent call for governments to implement highly progressive taxation measures that in turn must be used to invest in powerful and proven measures to reduce inequalities. In an effort to elevate the findings, the Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung Washington, DC has asked a sketching artist to illustrate some of the key figures in an infographic. Here is the result.
