Brazil 2022 - Democracy at Stake

Brazil, one of the world's largest democracies, heads to the polls on October 2nd for its first round of presidential elections. Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung Rio de Janeiro has provided analysis on the issues in the run-up to the election—how Brazil's president Jair Bolsonaro uses the internet to solidify his political power at the cost of the truth, the moral panic created by fake news and the term "gender ideology", and the role misogyny on social media plays in threatening women involved in politics. This is democracy in the era of algorithmic politics.
