Energy Transitions Around the World

About

The German energy transition – or Energiewende – has gained international attention as a “test case” in demonstrating the possibility for a country to transition its energy sector away from fossil fuels and nuclear energy to one based primarily on renewable sources. While Germany’s Energiewende has both rapidly progressed and more recently slowed in the face of challenges (such as the largely unwavering share of coal), countries around the world are rapidly pushing forward with energy transitions of their own. This series highlights the status, policies, obstacles, and future prospects of energy transitions in countries including Japan, Philippines, Israel, China, Uruguay, South Africa, and India.
