Leonie Hopgood is a parliamentary advisor on feminist foreign policy and Chief of Staff to MP Merle Spellerberg, deputy spokesperson on foreign affairs for Alliance 90 / The Greens. She has several years experience working on foreign policy issues in the German Bundestag, including background in disarmament, NATO and security strategy. In her work on feminist foreign policy, she focuses on translating civil society activism and academic research into political initiatives and shaping the discourse on FFP in the German political sphere.

In addition to her professional work on FFP, she has been co-chair of the “Gender and International Politics” programme at the Berlin-based grassroots Think Tank Polis180 since 2020. Her work and publications focus on FFP, gender and international organisations, masculinities and the rise of the anti-feminist movement. In 2020, she co-wrote the first #SHEcurity Index with MEP Hannah Neumann. Through Polis180, she is a member of the Network 1325, a network dedicated to promoting the implementation of the Women, Peace and Security Agenda in Germany.

She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in European Studies and a Master’s Degree in International Affairs. Her master thesis dealt with international norm translation by example of the implementation of the WPS-Agenda in NATO.

She lives in Berlin.
