Juliane Maria “Jane” Hilgert is one of the interns Foreign Policy and Democracy at the Heinrich Böll Foundation Washington, DC. She is currently enrolled in the LBB European Law at Maastricht University, and has completed an interdisciplinary minor in Sustainability. Given their strong interest in marine environmental protection, Jane has written and successfully passed their thesis on the legal framework of marine protected areas in the high seas. 

Alongside her studies, Jane has been an active member of the United Nations Student Association, including as the editor in chief of the student run journal Maastricht Diplomat in the last academic year. As a student journalist, she has been reporting on social justice issues and most recently was selected for the M100 Young European Journalist Workshop on Reporting on Climate Change and its Significance for Democracy. At the Heinrich Böll Foundation Washington, DC, Jane will be assisting the program directors for Democracy as well as Foreign & Security Policy and helping with administrative tasks.
