Remo Gassmann joined the Foundation in 2023 and heads the program on Global Development Policy. The program uses the Foundation’s global network of offices and civil society partners to lend weight to underrepresented perspectives on a just, inclusive and sustainable global economic and financial order. Remo is particularly interested in the ongoing reform efforts of the international financial and development architectures, i.e. the IFI Roadmap and the UN 2.0, and how these reforms can help change these institutions to better represent the voices from the Global South and deliver to those most in need.
Previously, Remo worked at the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office in Bosnia and Herzegovina, helping coordinate the strategic and operative work of 19 UN Agencies, Funds and Programs active in the country, whereby his role focused mostly on socio-economic reform and partnerships. Before that, he worked as a Human Rights Officer at the OHCHR Special Monitoring Mission in Kyiv, Ukraine, focusing mainly on human rights violations in armed conflict, and for several NGOs in Geneva on security sector governance and armed violence in Southeast Europe and Africa.
Remo holds a Master’s degree in Development Studies from the Geneva Graduate Institute (IHEID) and a Bachelor’s degree in International Affairs from the University of St. Gallen (HSG). He also studied at the School of International Relations at the St. Petersburg State University in Russia.
