André Winzen is a social data scientist specialising in computational methods for collecting, archiving, and analyzing user-generated content and behavioural data from social media and messaging platforms. Alongside his studies, he works at a Berlin-based think tank, where he contributes to research and investigations into influence operations and disinformation, conspiracy ideologies, as well as right-wing extremist and terrorist online subcultures.
His work aims to deepen the understanding of digital discourse as well as fringe online communities and, more broadly, to support the development of resilient democratic societies by addressing the cognitive and analytical challenges posed by the scale, ephemerality, and volatility of today’s digital information ecosystems. To address these issues, he also contributes to the development of open-source tools designed to empower activists, journalists, NGOs, and researchers to collect and analyse data in an accessible and efficient manner.
He is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Information Science and Computational Linguistics at the University of Cologne.
