Chim Channeang is the General Secretary of The Cambodian NGO Committee on CEDAW (NGO-CEDAW). Her work has been focusing specifically on promoting women’s human rights and gender equality in Cambodia for over 20 years. Channeang is a frontline Women’s Rights activist who actively lobbied and advocated for the better practice and legal framework against gender-based discrimination, including gender-based violence, at the international, national, and local levels.
She coordinated Cambodian civil society (CSOs) coalition members and partners of NGO-CEDAW for information sharing an ad hoc basis to respond to urgent situations affecting gender equality and women’s and girls’ rights. She has also coordinated CSOs to develop and publicize the annual CEDAW monitoring reports for Cambodia to document key concerns and incidents of women’s human rights violations which occurred in a specific calendar year. She also led and coordinated civil society’s representatives to in-person lobbying and advocacy at national and international level, including at the CEDAW review sessions in Geneva in 2013 and 2019.
