Claudia Rothe is a Senior Program Officer in the EU and North America Division, where she is responsible for the program on EU democracy. Her work focuses on questions of the rule of law in Europe, with particular emphasis on the rise of right-wing populism, shrinking spaces for civil society, and challenges to press and media freedom across the continent. She also serves as the liaison for the division’s offices in Prague and Thessaloniki.
 
Before joining the foundation, Claudia worked as a Research Assistant at the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in European Studies from the University of Osnabrück and a Master’s degree in North American Studies, which she pursued at the John F. Kennedy Institute of Freie Universität Berlin and at Indiana University in Bloomington, IN.
