George Escobar oversees the majority of CASA’s social service programming which includes legal assistance, naturalization support, financial literacy, case management, health navigation and health education initiatives. Programs within George’s portfolio are charged with providing services that address disparities, reunite families separated by unjust immigration policies and place community members in a stable situation, setting them up for success and introducing them to CASA’s power building and leadership development opportunities so CASA members can participate in collective actions meant to create positive social change and address the root causes impacting the circumstances in which they find themselves. George has over 15 years of experience working for both the public and non-profit sectors designing and leading a variety of programs in economic development, health, and employment assistance targeting the Latino and immigrant community. Prior to arriving at CASA, George was the Deputy Director of the DC Mayor’s Office on Latino Affairs having previously managed a wide array of community development programs at several area non-profits. George’s circuitous route to the Washington DC area took him from Southeast Los Angeles where he grew up in a Mexican immigrant household to Tanzania where he worked for three years on village based economic development projects before finally landing in the DC area.
