Dr. Jan-Niclas Gesenhues is the environmental spokesperson for the Bündnis 90/Die Grünen parliamentary group in the German Bundestag. The economist earned his doctorate in the field of international environmental and energy policy. Until his election to the Bundestag in 2021, he worked for the international agency for the crafts sector (KH S+W) as Head of International Affairs.

Before becoming a member of the Bundestag, he was a member of the executive committee of the Green Party of North Rhine-Westphalia from 2018 to June 2022 and parliamentary group chairman in the Steinfurt district council from 2014 to November 2021. There he presided over the environment committee as chairman from 2016 to November 2021. In August 2022, Jan-Niclas Gesenhues was elected chair of the district association of the Green Party of the Westphalia region.
