Joe Eggers is the Acting Director of the Center for Holocaust & Genocide Studies at the University of Minnesota. He has overseen the development of educator resources that examine the role of media in commemorating settler-colonial violence, the impact of truth and reconciliation efforts in the U.S., and the inclusion of Indigenous voices in agency narratives around Dakota sacred sites in the Twin Cities area.

In addition to his responsibilities as Acting Director, Joe coordinates the Center’s outreach efforts, including strengthening the University’s ties with resettled communities impacted by mass violence in Minnesota. His areas of interest include conceptual ideas of genocide and the role of mass violence in public memory. Joe received his master’s degree from the University of Minnesota and has been involved with the Center for Holocaust & Genocide Studies since 2014. Prior to his work with the Center, he was involved with community engagement and social justice non-profit organizations in Minneapolis.
