Kavitha Surana is a freelance journalist with a special focus on European issues. Much of her work focuses on immigration and human rights in Europe and the way EU policy affects individual member countries. She is a recent graduate of New York University’s Master’s joint program in journalism and European and Mediterranean Studies and she works in both print and video. In the past she has interned for the Associated Press bureau in Rome, Storyhunter, CNN Money and CNN’s Fareed Zakaria Global Public Square. Her articles and videos have appeared in the Associated Press, CNN, Quartz, Al Jazeera America and Global Post, among others. She speaks Italian, Spanish, Portuguese and some French. Kavitha used her fellowship to travel to Germany, where she reported on migration & integration issues in Marburg, Karlsruhe and Berlin.
