Marc Erwin Babej’s photography-based work  explores the interplay of ideology, rhetoric and aesthetics in the manufacture of societal narratives. Babej’s work is rooted in rigorous research and informed by collaboration with eminent scholars. It looks beyond depictions of marginalization to investigate  root causes: the material and psychological motives behind the construction of majority narratives, and the institutions by which such narratives are propagated. Throughout his work, Babej combines images with text elements often derived from primary sources. His search for synergies between images and text led to the development of Aspective Realism, a contemporary visual language.

Babej’s work is widely exhibited in museums, galleries, university libraries and festivals across the US and Europe. He is German-American and holds a Bachelor of Arts from Brown University and a Master of Science from Columbia University.
